Forced closure of schools - statement

In the light of the announcement by Gavin Williamson on 18 March that schools in England will be closed from the end of the day on Friday 20 March, we are seeking clarificiation from the Department for Education on how this will affect out of school providers.

In particular we need to know whether clubs are included in the blanket closure of schools and nurseries, and if so, whether any financial support - similar to that being promised to nurseries - will be provided.

We also want to know whether existing out of school clubs can be used to provide the promised childcare for the children of essential workers, and if so, whether there will be special regulations, for example restrictions on group sizes to reduce the risk of infection, and a relaxation of the requirement to register new premises with Ofsted.

We are hoping that the expected statement from the DfE this afternoon will provide more clarity. As soon as we have any concrete information we will be sharing it with our members.
